Initiatives

The National Urban Research & Extension Center (NUREC) bridges the gap between community and research by applying the unparalleled power and reach of the land-grant university system, rooted in Extension’s community-centered approach, to address our nation’s urban challenges. In keeping with our mission to focus first and foremost on the issues facing communities, NUREC launched three initiatives centering on:

• Built Environment
• Urban Food Resilience
• Health & Wellness

We implement these initiatives, in part, through our Knowledge and Practice Networks which engage individual Extension practitioners.

In addition, NUREC works to support the development of the urban Extension professional and urban Extension as part of the larger Extension and land-grant university system. We accomplish this through our Professional Development initiative which includes activities, projects, and publications.
